Admissions to SP100 - SP650 (formerly Groups O1, Y, S, L, I, and A)

Proficiency Exams:

Current and prospective students must take a proficiency exam to gain admission each year.  Demonstrating reasonable proficiency on the exam for a group will qualify you to remain at the same level; high proficiency will let you advance to the next level. We have 6 different exams this year:

  • SP100 Exam (2 hours, 6 problems), for admission to Groups SP100, SP200, and SP250

  • SP200 Exam (2 hours, 6 problems), for admission to Group SP300

  • SP300 Exam (2 hours, 6 problems), for admission to Groups SP300 and SP400.

  • SP400 Exam (2 hours, 6 problems), for admission to Groups SP400 and SP500

  • SP500 Exam (2.5 hours, 6 problems), for admission to Groups SP500 and SP600

  • SP600 Exam (3 hours, 6 problems), for admission to Groups SP600 and SP650

Please note that the proficiency exam selection criteria are the same as last year for the 2023/2024 Admissions Season. Exams will have six questions each, and students are expected to work on all of the questions on the exam.

Please click here for detailed instructions regarding which exam to register for.  Students can also answer a few questions when registering for the exam to determine the appropriate exam.

Online and In-person Learning Options

For the academic year 2024-25, students will have the option of attending online-only and in-person classes.

Our virtual classes will meet remotely for the entirety of the academic year.

In-person classes may have to be virtual if government regulations and/or other issues necessitate social distancing or other mitigating factors.

Please click here to find out more about the different courses we offer.

The cost of the program was $725 for the 2023 - 2024 academic year. We provide need-based financial aid scholarships to students who pass the entrance exam and are admitted into the program. Please click here for our detailed tuition policy.

Admissions to TS100 (formerly Group TSP - Talent Search Program)

We offer math classes to motivated, low-income 5th-6th grade NYC public school students. The program is completely free for eligible families.*

Our students learn math and problem-solving skills through an engaging curriculum of puzzles and games. They work individually, collaborate in groups, and practice presenting their solutions to their classmates and teachers.

TS100 (Formerly TSP) is an online, open-enrollment preparatory course for 5th and 6th graders in the NYC area.  The course covers key math skills required to tackle more complex problem-solving. Topics include arithmetic (order of operations, fractions, and negative numbers), number theory (divisibility rules, prime numbers, factoring), and general problem-solving (guess-and-check, basic algebra).  Students are expected to complete their weekly homework assignments.

*Students will need to meet one of two criteria:

  • If you are a student at one of our partner schools, please write to us at admissions@mathmaddicts.org and we will send you a link for the exam. If you are not sure whether your school is a partner school, please email us at admissions@mathmaddicts.org and we will let you know.

  • If you are not a student at one of our partner schools but are attending a neighborhood (i.e., non-magnet) NYC public school please complete this form to confirm eligibility. We will send you a link for the exam.
