Math-M-Addicts Talent Search
About Talent Search
Math-M-Addicts Talent Search is a free, challenging class series designed for low-income students in grades 5-6 attending public schools in the NYC area. Budding mathematicians attending the Talent Search have the opportunity to build math skills and confidence while discovering the complex and exciting world of mathematical problem solving.
While teaching our students math and problem-solving skills, we use some of our class time for games and other fun activities where they can work alone and in groups. They also learn how to explain their solutions to their classmates and teachers.
TS100 (Formerly TSP) is an online, open-enrollment preparatory course for 5th and 6th graders in the NYC area. The course covers key math skills required to tackle more complex problem-solving. Topics include arithmetic (order of operations, fractions, and negative numbers), number theory (divisibility rules, prime numbers, factoring), and general problem-solving (guess-and-check, basic algebra). Students are expected to complete their weekly homework assignments.
Classes will be 2 hours on Saturdays, with 1 to 3 hours of homework per week, from mid-September until June. Registration for the entrance exam will open in May.
