GROUP Z

About

This year we are launching a free class called Group Z. Group Z is a Foundations of Problem Solving class offered to 5th and 6th graders attending schools serving primarily low income and minority areas. The class focuses on prealgebra topics including ratios, permutations, divisibility rules, and logic puzzles. We will also use strategy games as a launching pad for exploring mathematical problem solving.

How to Apply

To apply on behalf of students:

  1. Teachers/principals must email admissions@mathmaddicts.com with Group Z in the title, to ask for the entrance exam.

  2. A teacher or administrator affiliated with the school should proctor the exam to all interested 5th and 6th graders at the same time, if possible, to ensure that students have a fair advantage.

  3. A school official must submit all entrance exam results electronically to admissions@mathmaddicts.com by September 27th, 2019. We will only take one email submission per school. We welcome teachers and principals to add written recommendations for particularly strong student candidates for our program.

  4. Admissions is conducted on a rolling basis. We will be selecting up to 20 students for the class. The teacher or principal submitting the written test will be notified with a list of accepted students within a week of our receipt of the exam submission.

  5. Once accepted, students must provide tax forms to confirm financial eligibility in order to register for the class.
